A Little Lesson & A Pretty Sunset

I was out last night and saw this spectacular sunset so just had to take a photo. This was only part of it as my camera cut out most....but this was the biggest and best part. It was humid, and you can see why as the sky was letting water loose but it wasn't hitting the ground for the most part...too bad as even after all that Spring rain we could use some more. Today was the hottest day of the summer so far.

And now for your history lesson for the day!

Interesting History

They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery, if you had to do this to survive you were "Piss Poor."

But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn't even afford to buy a pot......they "didn't have a pot to piss in" & were the lowest of the low.

The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be.

Sharing our family photo - first photo sans hubby

Thought I would share this photo from the 4th of July weekend....this was taken at our ranch which is about 5,200 feet above sea level....too bad there was some smoke in the air as the view is spectacular. The one below, of the girls sitting on the steps, is the same place, different view. Our friend from Texas built those for Sid so he could just step down across the little stream from the natural spring.

I use the word ranch loosely....we had 535 acres and sold 530 of them! We kept five acres in the middle where we have a natural Spring as well as our 28 foot trailer (which has been up there a year and we still haven't been able to use it!)    ;-(

Now this photo is of hubby....SIL, and granddaughter #1 on the night of the infamous Shooting Firecracker attack! ;o)

His Sweetness

I'm making some of Noah's buddies for the Noah's Ark swap...this is my first one which is already sent to Liz. Hopefully she has him by now. Four more to go. I also have a Nativity swap and will be finishing up on the first one soon.
His Sweetness is a baby dolphin made from a pattern by Annie Obaachan. Her book is called "Super Cute 25 Amigurumi Animals" and they are adorable creatures! This one went fast, and I was a bit surprised at just how easy it was to use a D hook (or 3mm) with worsted. Makes a lovely little animal, and easy to stuff.
On to making more!

Grannies Galore

Here are some of the squares I am putting together from the Granny McPhee Swap. I have bordered them each in Linen, joined four, then bordered in Misty Taupe, and then again in Sea Spray, which is also a Misty color from Vanna's Choice. Two views - and as you can see one in the middle isn't bordered yet as a group, but joined.

I have a sample border in some of the Misty colors....trying out something new. This afghan will really be a bedspread when I am through, so I think the last borders will have to be fairly large. I just did a corner on this one to show someone on Ravelry.
What do you think? Not quite as sharp as Attic24, as she is SOOOOOOOOOO good with colors, but acceptable I think!

Look what an Angel sent to me......

One of my gifts from overseas never arrived, most likely taken by some poor starving mail person....so a couple of USA gals were kind enough to make some things for me. This is from Dulcy in Alabama....she found a wool sweater in a thrift shop and cut it and felted it and sewed it into a tiny notions bag. Isn't it wonderful! WOW.....so perfect, and just the cutest thing! And she made the stitch markers, too, so the gal is definitely talented!
I'm so lucky!
