Paula, this is something you can make with ANY yarn....just so one is smaller. There are some "bulky" #4 yarns you could use, and crochet over them with a 2. One row is made with hd fans and the next row you keep the bulky one on top and crochet over with a sc/ch1 repeat. There is a pattern in my oldest crochet book for a beautiful coat made nearly exactly like this, so the technique has been around a long time. Yarns are better, though!
