This square is a take off of Square #95 in 101 Granny Squares by Darla Sims. After completing the pattern up to the 6th row I changed it. This pattern is written as if you have knowledge of repetition in squares and are better than a beginner - know how to start a row and how to finish one off.
Shell: 3 dc in same space
Row 7: 3dc ch2 3dc in the dc of the corner stitch; 3dc in top of cluster; 3dc in the sc 3 times (skipping the ch2 spaces); 3dc in first cluster; 3dc ch2 3dc in the dc of the corner stitch; repeat around. 7 shells
Row 8: sc ch2 sc in corner ch 2 space; sc in dc; ch2, skip one dc, sc in next dc of the shell (1st and last dc of the shell); sc in next dc, ch2, skip one dc, sc in next dc of the shall; repeat pattern across to corner; sc ch2 sc in corner. Repeat pattern on each side. There will be one ch2 space in each corner and 7 ch2 spaces across each side for a total of 32 ch2 spaces.
Row 9: 3 dc ch 2 3dc in corner; 3 dc in ea ch 2 space to corner; 9 shells on each side.
The bottom square is #28, Christmas Rose in 200 Crochet Blocks by Jan Eaton. This square was ripped out and re-done, but am still not thrilled with it. I think it has too many stripes for my personal tastes, but believe the recipient will love it!
